✨⚖️ At the last Global #GLAM Call, we shared more about the #SharingShift project.
Together with CIS/@cnrs@social.numerique.gouv.fr, we are exploring ways to share knowledge that preserve openness while giving communities greater control in the age of AI.

Docker is the last deployment tool you will ever have to learn.
Docker compose, we meant docker compose.
*sorry for ranting
This is very bad news. Owncast has relied on this program the past couple of years, and has allowed us to have servers and services we wouldn't normally afford to be able to do otherwise, especially now with Gabe being unemployed.
Any other cloud hosting providers want to step in and help all the open source projects that are going to be in this position?
Additionally, this might be a good time to show your financial support for Owncast.
@owncast well, they have to make savings somewhere to support Nazi Linux vanity distro Omarchy /s
@christin how does the new system work? I just check if there are new strings?
@elettrona yeah, it is quiet simple. Just check, if there are new, not translated strings. Nothing more to do. Weblate does the pull request and everything completely on its own.

Digital Ocean killed its "we give Open Source projects a bit of free hosting" policy basically at the same time they droppen 3 millions USD on Omarchy, DHH's (who is a fascist and racist) set of config files he calls a distribution.
This is exactly the kind of "Power Grab" I wrote about a few weeks ago: https://tante.cc/2026/09/11/power-grab/
DHH is working towards accumulating open source funding to be able to direct it towards projects that align with his technical and ideological views.
It's hard to overstate how dangerous that is for all of us.
(For a million bucks Digital Ocean could have hosted a whole metric fuckton on open source websites and infrastructure.)
@TCMuffin @jaz @gomez @siaronj @philroyle @morchwyn @GnomeBones @alexisbushnell @epistatacadam Nicely done! 😎

Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
When we moved as a project to limit AI use in #inkscape we lost a developer who really got into it. Even did presentations, which I thank him for since it aided understanding.
But now I face the disquiet of not knowing which of the last few years bits of work he worked on were generated and if so how much.
I look at some of this code today and its flat and undisciplined. Is that the devs own coding style or was that a machine's context flattening?
*sigh* it's remediation time.

An interesting freedom of information decision from the ICO, about a request to
> the British Transport Police (BTP) to disclose the algorithmic methods underpinning any automated image recognition technology it uses.
The ICO was unconvinced that the BTP genuinely did not have the information in question, and so required it to look again.

🆕 blog! “Are you a smartwatch "power user"?”
What do you use your smartwatch for?
A few weeks ago, I overheard a conversation between someone on the Pixel Watch team and a woman I know. He was quizzing her at a party about her Pixel watch and what features she used. He'd ignored me when I said I had a non-Google watch. She thought for a moment and said, other than …

@Edent Well, we got a Samsung smartwatch. To replace a pedometer that had died.
Then we discovered that smartwatches can't count steps. They can only count arm swings.
So if your watch is on the arm that's holding a bag against your side or chest, the arm isn't swinging and it counts no steps.
Also, if you're sitting down taking NO steps, you can just swing your arm and rack up "steps."
In our opinion, smartwatches are useless.

Fucking Reddit fucking sucks.
@brentsimmons At some point, something is going to replace it. I hope.
